Chipboard Boxes for Anthology Box Set

Widely recognized as one of the most creative and influential musicians of the 20th century, Jimi Hendrix pioneered the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar, so when JZ Media was tasked with creating a collection of unreleased studio recordings, they had to make a package that would be worthy of the contents within.

To celebrate the legacy of guitar god Jimi Hendrix, our design team collaborated with long-time clients JZ Media for the release of the West Coast Seattle Boy Anthology for Legacy Recordings,  a division of Sony.  In his short career, Hendrix transformed the notion of what an electric guitar could sound like, and consequently, influenced generations of musicians to come. This anthology contained four albums of previously unreleased studio recordings and live performances, as well as an in-depth biographical documentary.

Hendrix’s innovative style of combining fuzz, feedback and controlled distortion created a new musical form. Because he was unable to read or write music, it is nothing short of remarkable that Jimi Hendrix’s meteoric rise in the music took place in just four short years. Taylor Box was enlisted to create a numbered, special edition box to hold a collector’s edition anthology to honor this legendary performer.

These base and lid chipboard boxes were each wrapped in Hyflex printed covering to prevent cracking and stand the test of time.  The wrap design featured a collage of photographs and posters from Jimi’s life and career.   Constructed of black chipboard substrate, and coupled with the wrap, demonstrate the structural assurance that was created for a keepsake piece.

Each box was individually numbered as part of a limited edition production. For an exclusive anthology experience like this, premium packaging makes all the difference.
