Ornament Packaging for Museum

To stand out amongst other famous works of art, the Whitney Museum designed this impactful set of packaging for the Frank Stella Ornament collection.

Famed American painter, sculptor, and printmaker Frank Stella designed a set of colorful holiday ornaments for his retrospective at the Whitney Museum. Each piece was packaged in its own color corresponding box. Seven in all, this set of ornament packaging is a delightful interpretation of the Holiday Season.

Each individual box is wrapped in a shade of Rainbow paper from Ecological Fibers. The colors are bright and lively, far removed from traditional Holiday hues, but the eccentric palette makes the ornament packaging all the more appealing.

The base and lid construction is decidedly minimalist in appearance, with only the name and it’s contents descriptions “Frank Stella Ornament” foil stamped onto the packaging. It’s a pared-down, no-frills decoration typical of Stella’s aesthetic.

Individually, these pieces are striking, but as a set in an elongated tray, the full effect is even more impressive.
