Hello, I’m Afonso, but I usually go by Fonzie.
As a Packaging Specialist, I’ve been working at Taylor Box for the past 3-years (as of 2022) in the Hand and Assembly Departments. My job tasks change daily, and I work on many projects that come through the factory in some capacity. I have been trained in various packaging techniques and have mastered tipping and assembling fine-detailed projects, which require a steady hand and a good eye for detail.
Before Taylor Box, I worked in the Food Service Industry as a waiter and banquet server, but I also had my own side business making various hand-crafted items. My creativity brought me here and gave me the skills I needed to make it an easy transition.
The biggest challenge of my role is ensuring that I keep quality at the top of my priority list, ensuring each project is completed to specifications and correcting any defects whenever possible.
My favorite thing about working at Taylor is that it is a small company. Being a multi-generational managed company has created a family vibe, and I feel that the Shedd’s appreciate their employees and my contributions. They are very generous with bi-weekly breakfasts/break time, lunches & special treats throughout the year.
One of my favorite moments working at Taylor Box Company was winning the Water Balloon Toss with my co-worker Kitty Estrella. This is no easy feat! Tossing a large, heavy balloon filled with water 20-25 feet can be a bit stressful, but there is a lot of laughing and great prizes.
Outside of Taylor Box, I am a highly creative person who has become a sewing master. I won multiple awards (Most Creative and Overall Best Awards) for my Henry VIII costume the first year I participated in the Halloween Costume Contest.
