(Recyclable) Box of the Month: Holiday Gift Box!

Here in Warren, birds are chirping, the weather is turning, and New Englanders are emerging from hibernation. Things are alive and growing everywhere and if there’s a good time to plant some flowers, it’s right now. At Taylor Box, we’re enjoying the fruits of our Holiday Gift Box making things a little greener this summer.

The Holiday Gift Box: A Taylor Box Tradition

Every Holiday Season, Taylor Box sends a custom package to our partners thanking them for their collaboration and support. It’s our way of commemorating another year, but it’s also a chance for us to strut our stuff. Some of our most whimsical design work goes into manufacturing our annual Holiday Gift Box—Have you seen our Award-Winning 2015 design? This year was no exception.

The gift that keeps on living

For the 2016 edition, we decided to focus on the environment and those who steward our environment. We chose to celebrate the centennial of the National Parks Service through a philanthropic donation to the National Park Foundation in the name of our partners. In keeping with the theme of conservation and wildlife, the enclosed gift was a letter-pressed paper disc embedded with a handful of wild flower seeds ready to plant. The box was composed of 100% recycled paperboard, partially recycled FSC® certified paper and was fit to be repurposed and reuse; if not, it was completely recyclable.

Pulling it all together

For this construction, we chose a “Drawer Box” style or a tray in slipcase. Each tray was wrapped in a selection of shades of Rainbow 70 paper from Ecological Fibers, giving variety and a sense of individuality to each piece. A “ribbon” pull, also made from paper, was attached to help ease extraction and more closely simulate the mechanical action of a sliding drawer. The slipcase was foil stamped with an especially poignant quote from Teddy Roosevelt, father of the Parks Service, and featured gorgeous floral ornamentation, also foil stamped.

Since nothing beats the tactile bliss of tearing open presents, we wrapped the whole thing in a bellyband comprised of 80# text weight FSC certified Curious from Mohawk Paper, ripe for the ripping. Etched into the bellyband was our holiday message, explaining our donation and extending warm wishes for the coming year.

This compact box with its humble contents represents our ongoing effort to craft quality, custom packaging while remaining committed to sustainable, low-impact manufacturing best practices.
